 Qatar: an emirate to discover!

From the 9th to the 16th of October and for the first time, the world best cyclers will finish their season in the Middle East over the sunfilled roads of Qatar (Created on September the 3rd 1971.)

Since 1927, each year the supreme course, which is placed under the the UCI ( Union cycliste International) happens in a different country. The small territory of Qatar (11586 km2) shaped like a peninsula, with circa 2.4 millions habitants is situated in the Gulf persian next to Saudi Arabia . Its principal ressources come from gas and petroleum.

Qatar focuses greatly on sports by organizing huge events such as the World Cup in 2022. The cycling epreuves will take place around the capital of Doha.

For this 89th edition, the champs will not be on unknown land since they run the tour of Qatar each winter since 2002 and the Tour of Qatar for the ladies since 2009.

With thousand of athletes traveling from 75 countries, 12 titles and rainbow shirts will be distributed on the Time Trials (7), and Road Races (5).

The finals will be held on the stunning man made islands of the Pearl, looking like a riviera and facing the skyscrapers of the capital.

On the last day, the queen course, lasting 257 km, will cross the desert with adapted measures to fight the heat still high at this time of the year. The flat per course should help the sprinters.

The next world championship will happen in 2017 in Bergen (Norvegia) and in 2018 in Innsbruck (Austria).
